I have one question though, and I’m not sure if it’s been answered yet… Will the backers be able to get the PS4 version free of charge? I reckon it’ll be a separate purchase, but I thought I would ask anyway.

Cheers.

I would assume someone waking up from a coma wishing to reevaluate pretty much everything in life, including their appearance? Taste and style also tend to change over time, regardless of comatose state. I have full trust in RTG.

The first row of pictures shown above fulfils my request (pic 3 is probably the closest one but for some reason I like 1 & 2 more  )
The others look too much cyberpunk to me and even if it suits better to Europolis (or Propast – thx for this czech world as well), my mind just can´t accept them…and the short hair style reminds me of April, so not suitable solution as well.
Just my honest opinion :)   :sotb:

Sure, one could give a reason why a lighter-skinned Zoë would make some sort of internal sense, should she make it into the actual game.  Nevertheless, given the world as it is, I don’t believe that there’s anything that could ever make the decision to depict Zoë as has been done in the images in the first post a neutral one.

Still, I’m not super-worried.  Like I’ve said and you’ve noted, the depiction of Zoë shown in the initial post appears to be something of an outlier, so right now I’m not doing much more than raising my eyebrows.   That said, Zoë already tends to be subjected to a fair amount of whitewashing in fan circles–fan art and fan casts and such–so I don’t think worrying about this sort of thing is unwarranted.

Outfit looks good, hair look good.  One thing I’d like to note, though, is how Zoë seems quite light-skinned in these designs, compared to how she looked in the first Dreamfall and its associated art.  While this may not reflect how she will look in the actual game–I’ll admit I’ve been avoiding actual in-game footage–it still concerns me.  Zoë is a biracial woman of color.  She is not white.

She might not be a white woman, but she is a woman who has recently been in a coma. And then moved from Sunny Casablaca to a much more dark and gloomy Prague. I would expect that to have some effect on how she looks. Even people of her ethnic background become paler when deprived of sunlight (I would know as my husband is Spanish/Japanese – he might tan super easy, but keep him out of the sun and his tan will fade just like mine). After the revamp her features are very close to that in Dreamfall, and if you compare the pictures side by side she really doesn’t look that much paler. (In any case, she’s still significantly darker than me.)10462545_689127367790176_138066389033131500px-ZoeRender.jpg

Oh and I love the hair and outfits too…

Now, I realize that there’s no right or wrong way for biracial people to look, and that some biracial people can look very white indeed–see half-Chinese actress External, my personal pick for the Zoë role in a Dreamfall film and someone whom I initially misidentified.  What’s more, I realize that no matter how she looks, the canonicity of Zoë’s parentage means that she is not without representational value.  And yet…videogames are not real life.  Programmers can control how their characters look.  There are precious few women of color protagonists in videogames, and fewer still that could be considered well-written.  While I realize that it’s late in the game, there’s only so much programmers can do before Zoë stops looking like Zoë, and that Zoë’s look in Dreamfall was not necessarily reflective of her racial heritage as it was eventually revealed (to me, the game seemed to code her as somewhat Arabic, which led me to surmise that she was descended from Moroccan immigrants to Spain, which might conceivably still be the case; nothing about her looks indicated East Asian heritage),  I would nevertheless like to play the game without thinking that Zoë could pass for Jill Valentine’s sister, which is who these pictures remind me of, and would like to not have to worry that this will be the case.

I don’t think those are pointy shoulders, just the way the hood resting on her shoulders gives that effect.

I can’t speak for all ‘sci-fi outfits’, but this one does not have pointy shoulders. You might mistake the hood for shoulders.

Ah, now I see it after it was pointed out. *facepalm*

And hurray for mystery and slow reveal! :D

Okay two questions: Why do most sci-fi outfits have the pointy shoulders?

And when do we get to see something other than a side profile of the new Zoë?

When it comes to the new Zoë, all will be revealed in time. She is in progress as we speak.
